Do you understand the Hair Transplant Jargon?
What is FUE?
FUE, which stands for follicular unit extraction, is the most modern technique of hair restoration. Due to groundbreaking advances in hair transplantation procedures, this is a more advanced method of transplantation than earlier techniques such as strip harvesting transplantation or follicular unit transplantation (FUT).
How does it work?
When you have an FUE transplant, our team of highly experienced surgeons extract individual hair follicles from a donor area, usually on the back of the head, using a specially calibrated extraction instrument with a diameter of less than 1mm. These follicles are then individually transferred to the recipient area on the scalp and are implanted in groups ranging in size between one and four hairs (to follow the pattern hair grows naturally) using a powerful stereo microscope.
The procedure itself in minimally invasive and only requires a local anaesthetic rather than a general anaesthetic, which in turn means the recovery time and risk of complications are very low.
Following the surgery, most clinics provide clear aftercare instructions in addition to medication and topical treatments to ensure the best possible results.
How is it different?
FUE treatments differ from other hair restoration treatments in a number of ways, the first of which is the most noticeable as FUE doesn’t leave any distinctive visible scarring or any noticeable changes (barring the renewed lease of life for your hair).
By contrast, strip transplants which are performed by removing a piece of scalp covered in hair to extract hair follicles for transplantation, often leaves very distinct lateral scarring across the back of the head. In comparison to FUE, strip transplant surgery also has a much larger recovery time. Following some initial bleeding, FUE transplantation usually has a recovery time of approximately seven days, however due to the nature of strip transplantation, the recovery period can take a matter of weeks.
The possible results from FUE transplantation are of the highest quality and offer the most natural appearance of any transplantation method. Due to the often undetectable results being the most significant advantage, this method is often preferred to any other transplantation method.
Your donor hair is a precious resource
The most important thing to bear in mind is that during hair transplants is that the process is simply to relocate hair from one part of your body to another, the surgeons cannot create donor hair. Your personal hair is a finite resource and our surgeons take absolute care to safeguard and protect every individual follicle during to transplantation procedure. This ensures that no hairs are lost, dropped or damaged once they have been extracted.
The donor hair itself is extracted from places that are unaffected by hair loss, for example, in men this is usually the sides and back of the head. These individual follicles are then transplants in batches of up to four into the area of the scalp that requires attention.
If you want optimum, natural looking results from your restoration transplant, you cannot afford to use any clinic but the best.
The results of an FUE hair transplant
The reason that FUE transplants are so remarkable is the specific way in which the hairs are extracted and implanted. Our experience specialists take the time to carefully track and map your hair growth before implantation to ensure that they know the precise angle and position the place each individual follicle. The process itself requires an exceptional level of experience and expertise, however every individual result continues to show us that it is completely worth it. When an FUE transplant is successful, the donor grows, feels and moves exactly how it used to.
As this is your pre-existing natural hair, simply moved from one area to another, it will grow as normal and is completely permanent. These is no need for pills and potions to maintain it, simply enjoy your natural hair.
