Is London Fashion Week working for the Independants?

Absolutely yes and that’s, thanks to teams like Oxford Fashion Studio!

For the eighth consecutive season, Oxford Fashion Studio continues to create a platform for independent designers, bringing international exposure to their roster of designers. Representing independent design culture since 2009, the OFS team has delivered 100+ runway shows across all fashion capitals showing 600+ designers from over 70 countries. London Fashion Week AW19 sees’ Oxford Fashion Studio showcase six independent designers from around the World.

“We began Oxford Fashion Studio with a love of supporting independent design talent. Going all out for individuals we believe in; for the good of independence, originality and integrity. Nine years on we are responsible for continuing to strengthen over 639 independent, quality designers, ranging from over 70 countries, to give them a platform in the four fashion capitals during fashion week. The talent we scout have often been undiscovered in the fashion capitals and we’re incredibly proud to be the ones to bring them to the front line of the industry.” Says Runway Director, Tiffany Saunders.

Jasmine Chenell — @Jasmine.Chenell Creative Director, Jasmine Chenell is a ready-to-wear Womenswear designer based in Connecticut, US. An Alumni of Parsons, Chenell focuses on women’s contemporary design with a contradictory twist. Inspired by her travels and the World around her, Chenell fuses an array of textures and colours combined with exclusive prints, appealing to both the conceptual and minimal aesthetics.

Psalms 32:8 AW19 Collection Inspired through the development of a colour story, illustrating transformative emotions of desolation and despair whilst being guided into the light of hope and liberation, Jasmine Chenell’s AW19 Collection revolves around finding light within darkness. Liquid metallic copper mesh is mirrored through intricate metallic copper embroidery bringing a freshness and texture to the collection. Cotton herringbone and stretch double faced suiting sit back to silk satin organza whilst Chenell’s bespoke digital prints bring colour and light to the collection.

Pavlina Jauss — @PavlinaJauss Born and raised in Lovech, Bulgaria, Pavlina Jauss moved to Hamburg Germany in 2000 where she studied Fashion Design at the famous Akademie JAK. In 2014 Jauss opened the brands Womenswear design studio, encompassing the best of European craftsmanship combined with the finest leathers and textiles from Europe with fair-trade and sustainability at the heart of the brand, Pavlina Jauss works exclusively with European suppliers.

Mythology AW19 Collection Influenced by mystical creatures and deities, Pavlina Jauss AW19 Collection ‘Mythology’ takes design inspiration from the strong women of the Amazon tribes. Fabrics and prints reflect an undercurrent of strength and power throughout, with luxurious leathers sourced from Italy paired back to the softest of knitwear from Bulgaria’s knitting mills creating Pavlina Jauss distinctive aesthetic.

Chaahat Thakkar — @ChaahatThakker A young multi-disciplinary creative working in New York City, Chaahat Thakker is a recent graduate from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Armed with a diverse visual arts background, Thakker explores fashion as equal parts wearable art and functional design. She enjoys looking at a wide range of art, from the whimsical
works of Sabine Timm to the bright and bold compositions of Frank Stella, but also seeks out unconventional sources of inspiration, such as her collection of discarded scraps and miniature objects.

Deplico AW19 Collection Chaahat Thakker’s AW19 Womenswear Collection, ‘Deplico’ approaches fashion with an inquisitive child-like sensibility. Her unique perspective on garment design is informed by her experience as a sewing teacher for young children, who she finds remarkably refreshing with their nonchalant disregard for adult-world conventions. With the same uninhibited outlook, Thakker explores construction and colour through a wide variety of media including sculpture, kirigami, and collage. The results are dynamic silhouettes and playful details that challenge consumers’ notions of a wearable garment.

Anel Official — @Anel_Official_Berlin Berlin ready-to-wear Womenswear brand, Anel Official delivers affordable luxury. Designers Elena and Anastasia Seeman are focused as much on how a garment feels and functions as how it looks. Precise tailoring and exceptional fabrics combine to create an understated extravagance, offset with a sense of effortlessness, the design house creates a timeless look that is confident, intelligent and subtle.

AW19 Collection Silhouettes are precise and minimalistic, yet light and feminine. From tailored wool pantsuits, silk blouses and dresses to vegan leather trousers, each piece is carefully considered with a relaxed feel. High quality fabric is handpicked for every single piece. Designed with craftsmanship at the heart, thoughtful precision and uncompromising quality of materials resonate throughout. The core of the brand identity is represented by the name, where A stands for pleasant (Angenehmer), N for natural (Natürlicher), E for affordable (Erschwinglicher) and L for luxury (Luxus).

Rora Clothing — @RoraClothing New-York based, Rora Clothing travels to a new location every season and transforms this inspiration into the collection. Each Womenswear piece telling a story, reflecting the designers’ journey. The name RORA comes from Aurora Borealis, the northern lights, a powerful phenomenon which redefines the natural beauty. Inspiring through their work delivering a lightness and energy to the industry. Inspired by a different location around the world, each collection embodies the culture of that city and reflects it in a modern way.

AW19 Collection A/W19 collection is inspired by the unique charm of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Resonating artist, Logan Maxwell Hagege whose approach to western art is a rare find, Rora Clothing mixes colours and shapes with textured woven’s and silver metal accents to create a surreal interpretation of this mesmerized city.

Darlene Ritz — @dcr_studios Designed by Darlene Ritz who has been training the next generation of fashion industry professionals since 2003, DCR Studios is designed with quality construction, impeccable fit, and high fashion aesthetics for sizes often ignored at the heart of the brand. A design led, plus size collection, DCR Studios champions body inclusivity for women of all sizes.

AW19 Collection (Menswear/Womenswear) AW19 combines texture, colour and silhouette in unusual ways showcasing structured and tailored wool suiting with flowing silk chiffons. Practical yet sustainable bamboo knits provide an element of sophistication with organic cotton poplins and absolute attention to detail. Combining traditional colours with clever layering and the softest of knitwear, the Menswear collection is inspired by the rebel that ‘grew up’ to be the successful man who demands style and quality. Think tattoos under his beautifully tailored dress shirt. He still wants a motorcycle jacket, but now it’s made out of wool suiting. The Womenswear muse is confident in her accomplishments, she has put in the time and energy, and is now reaping the benefits. Although she enjoys beautiful things this is not what drives her, it is the satisfaction of a job well done. She experiences life to the fullest, all of the joy, pain, beauty, and hardship that life is.
