SS20 is the season to embrace different makeup techniques and products. Bold styles and colours once reserved for music festivals and fashion shows will be featured heavily this summer. The time for unapologetic self-expression with makeup has emerged. The common theme this season is about experimenting with products, such as bold pigment shades, neon shadows and liners, glossy textures and shimmers and glitters.
Investing in base products which provide a luminous, dewy finish has become a big beauty trend for SS20. Items containing hydrating, nourishing, and radiant formulas have become the latest obsession. Moisturisers, primers and serum products in particular, which offer a natural glowy aesthetic are a hot topic for this summer. The recent popularity of the skincare focused makeup brand Glossier, has highlighted a shift towards purchasing beauty products which will also benefit the skin. Some products to look out for include the Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly priced at £31 and the Glossier Futuredew oil serum priced at £23.
Move over warm red hues, cool pastel tones have taken the spotlight when it comes to eyeshadow and lip products. Frosty pastel blues, greens and purples will be making their way into the mainstream this summer, as showcased in various fashion shows on the runways during the SS20 fashion weeks at Kenzo, Marc Jacobs and Chloé. Recreating these runway looks has been made more accessible following the launch of Huda Beauty’s selection of versatile pastel eyeshadow palettes in Rose, Mint and Lilac.
Winged eyeliner gets an update this season, moving away from the traditional basic black shades, colourful liner is making a statement. Experiment with neon’s and bold shades adding a little bit extra to make simplistic makeup look stand out this summer, as featured on the runway at Helmut Lang. Check out the Make Up for Ever Aqua XL Ink Eye Liner in the shade Lustrous Violet and the Makeup Revolution Renaissance Eyeliner in the shade Blue to test out this beauty trend.
